Florence is on the central west coast of Oregon, and can be reached in only a few ways. By water via the Siuslaw river, by air via the Florence Municipal Airport, and by road on US Highway 101 or Oregon State Highway 126.
To get to the Shelter, take the scenic Rhododendron Drive (often called Rhody) along the river to 2840 Rhody. From the north on 101 , one can connect to Rhody from Heceta Beach Road (at Heceta Junction about milepost 187), or 35th St. From either, you make a left turn on Rhody and head south. Coming from the east , stay on 126 , which will change to 9th Street when it crosses 101. 9th street dead ends in Rhody, where you turn right. From the south on 101 turn left onto Rhody itself, at the first traffic light. If you miss it, turn left on 9th at the second light. |
To visit the thrift shop or old town, turn off route
101
just north of the bridge, about milepost 191, and head south towards Bay St. and the river.
It doesn't matter if you turn east or west, for Bay street crosses under the bridge. Most old town shops are to the east of 101, the thrift store is to the west. After visiting old town and the thrift store you can easily get back onto 101 or Rhododendron. |
